50,000,000 Instagram Fans Can't Be Wrong

Facebook famously bought Instagram recently for $1 billion to get hold not only of the great service it offered but also its user-base. Well, it looks like the purchase may well have been a bargain buy, as there are now more than 50 million users world wide.

It’s thought that Instagram started the year with a little over 15 million users across both Android and iOS, doubling by the time April came around and the latest news seems to put the app at the magical 50 million mark.

Now, these aren’t official stats released by the company. Rather, tech site Mashable has been taking a peek at the API for the app, which apparently gives you information as to the install base. They are also reporting that a whopping five million users are signing up every week.

Instagram used to be the sole preserve of the Apple iOS but since it was ported over to Android, the world’s favourite smartphone platform right now, it seems this is the source of the huge growth in popularity.

Are you a fan of Instagram and its quirky effects? Let us know whether you’re rocking it on Apple or Android!
