Forget the iPad – here's the Chumby
In this week’s web TV, I take a look at the Chumby. It’s a rather unique character that can perform lots of different functions – I can check email, listen to podcasts, plug in my MP3 player and listen to music, update Facebook and play (very basic) games.
With all the buzz around the iPad and Tablet PCs, the Chumby is like the fatter, slightly slower older brother of the new generation of devices coming to market.
That said, the Chumby was doing it all when the iPad was still a twinkle in Steve Jobs’ eye, so kudos to it for forward thinking – and for its unique design.
Find out my verdict on the Chumby in this week’s web TV…

Is it me or is the sound a bit dodgy on this edition? The Studio bits are stereo and the films are mono?

I love my Chumby. It sits quitley next to my sofa shows pictures from Facebook at the moment, however it will soon be streaming them from my WD Mybook. The apps are all free and you create channels on your PC to download or interact with on the Chumby, there are 100s of apps, and using the example of searching YouTube, there is more than one. Also you can set it to cycle through apps automatically, one minute it's telling you the weather, the next it's showing a twitter feed. I love it and I don't use it as a clock radio.

Chumpy sounds odd but good as a name but with a very unreactive touchscreen, smaller screen I think it would just do good as a alarm clock or whatever else involoves not touching the screen, I would still go for the ipad and it is it got a good battery life when not charging up like the ipad or not?
